Solo Mining Bitcoin Node

I have a Gekko NewPac USB miner that I bought for fun while getting started. Overclocked, I average around 50 Gh/s.
The machine it’s connected to has a full Bitcoin Node on it. I’ve enabled the wallet, and would like to point my Gekko miner at the node via cgminer for solo mining, just as a lottery. I know the odds.
I’ve tried following several guides, but they are all fairly old. Is this still possible? And if so, can anybody help me with the bitcoin.conf file?

START HERE

UPDATE 1/21/14: I'm not updating this guide anymore. Most of the steps should still work though. See the wiki or check the sidebar for updated instructions.
Before you do anything else, you need to get a wallet. Until there's a secure online wallet, this means you need to download the dogecoin client.
Now open the client you just downloaded. You'll be given a default address automatically, and it should connect to peers and start downloading the dogechain (aka blockchain in formal speak). You'll know because there will be a progress bar at the bottom and at the lower right there should be a signal strength icon (TODO: add screenshots).
If you've waited 2 or 3 minutes and nothing is happening, copy this:

And paste it into a new text file called dogecoin.conf, which you then place into the dogecoin app directory.
Now restart your qt client and the blockchain should start downloading in about 1-2 minutes.
Once it finished downloading, you're ready to send and receive Dogecoins!

GETTING COINS

Decide how you want to get Dogecoin. Your options are:
I'll go into detail about each of these. I'm currently writing this out. I'll make edits as I add sections. Suggestions are welcome.

MINING

Mining is how new dogecoins are created. If you're new to crypto currencies, read this. To mine (also called "digging"), a computer with a decent GPU (graphics card) is recommended. You can also mine with your CPU, but it's not as efficient.

GPU MINING

These instructions cover only Windows for now. To mine, you'll need to figure out what GPU you have. It'll be either AMD/ATI or Nvidia. The setup for both is approximately the same.

Step One: Choose a pool

There's a list of pools on the wiki. For now it doesn't really matter which one you choose. You can easily switch later.
NOTE: You can mine in two ways. Solo mining is where you mine by yourself. When you find a block you get all the reward. Pool mining is when you team up with other miners to work on the same block together. This makes it more likely that you'll find a block, but you won't get all of it, you'll have to split it up with others according to your share of the work. Pool mining is recommended because it gives you frequent payouts, because you find more blocks. The larger the pool you join, the more frequent the payouts, but the smaller the reward you get.
Over a long period of time the difference between pool and solo mining goes away, but if you solo mine it might be months before you get any coins.

Step two: Set up pool account

The pool you chose should have a getting started page. Read it and follow the instructions. Instructions vary but the general idea is:

Step three: Download mining software

For best performance you'll need the right mining software.
Unzip the download anywhere you want.

Step four: Set up miner

Create a text file in the same folder as your miner application. Inside, put the command you'll be running (remove brackets).
For AMD it's cgminer.exe --scrypt -o stratum+tcp://: -u -p
For Nvidia it's cudaminer.exe -o stratum+tcp://: -O :
Substitute the right stuff in for the placeholders. Then on the next line of the text file type pause. This will let you see any errors that you get. Then save the file with any name you want, as long as the file extension is .bat. For example mine_serverName.bat.

Step five: Launch your miner

Just open the .bat file and a command line window should pop up, letting you know that the miner is starting. Once it starts, it should print out your hash rate.
If you now go to the pool website, the dashboard should start showing your hashrate. At first it'll be lower than what it says in the miner, but that's because the dashboard is taking a 5 minute average. It'll catch up soon enough.
NOTE: A normal hashrate is between 50 Kh/s up to even 1 Mh/s depending on your GPU.

You're now mining Dogecoins

That's it, nothing more to it.

CPU MINING

CPU mining isn't really recommended, because you'll be spending a lot on more on power than you'd make from mining Dogecoin. You could better spend that money on buying Dogecoin by trading. But if you have free electricity and want to try it out, check out this informative forum post.

Trading

Trading has been difficult so far, but Dogecoin just got added to a few new exchanges. If you don't have a giant mining rig, this is probably the best way to get 100k or more dogecoins at the moment. I'll write up a more complete guide, but for now check out these sites:

Faucets

Faucets are sites that give out free coins. Usually a site will give out somewhere between 1 and 100 Dogecoin. Every site has its own time limits, but usually you can only receive coins once every few hours, or in some cases, days. It's a great way to get started. All you do is copy your address from the receive section of your wallet and enter it on some faucet sites. Check out /dogecoinfaucets for more. If you go to each site on there you might end up with a couple hundred Dogecoin!

Begging

This method is pretty straightforward. Post your receiving address, and ask for some coins. Such poor shibe. The only catch is, don't do it here! Please go to /dogecoinbeg.

Tips

At the moment there are two tip bots:
Other redditors can give you Dogecoin by summoning the tip bot, something like this:
+dogetipbot 5 doge
This might happen if you make a good post, or someone just wants to give out some coins. Once you receive a tip you have to accept it in a few days or else it'll get returned. Do this by following the instructions on the message you receive in your inbox. You reply to the bot with "+accept". Commands go in the message body. Once you do that, the bot will create a tipping address for you, and you can use the links in the message you receive to see your info, withdraw coins to your dogecoin-qt wallet, see your history, and a bunch of other stuff.
As a bonus, so_doge_tip has a feature where you can get some Dogecoins to start with in exchange for how much karma you have. To do this, send the message "+redeem DOGE" to so_doge_tip. You'll need to create a tipping account if you don't have one.
If you want to create a tipping account without ever being tipped first, message either of the bots with "+register" and an address will be created for you.

Dogecoin on Linux - The Complete Beginner's Guide

I'm writing this because I couldn't find a single condensed guide on compiling the wallet and running mining software on linux, specficially Ubuntu/Linux Mint. I combed Bitcoin and Litecoin forums for similar problems I was running into and eventually got everything nailed down, so here it is in one place, for new Shibes.
If you want to make a Dogecoin directory in your downloads folder to keep things organized, you will need to modify these commands to refelct the change. So instead of going to ~/Downloads/ you will need to go to ~/Downloads/Dogecoin and be sure to put the zipped files there when you download them, but the commands will be the same otherwise.
cwayne18 put in the work to make a PPA for the QT client here.
Ubunutu/Mint/Debian users should be able to install the client with the following commands:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:cwayne18/doge sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install dogecoin-qt 
To update using this method, run
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade dogecoin-qt 
Compiling the Wallet Manually
I suggest using the PPA above, but if you want to compile manually, here you go.
1)Download the newest source from here. If you want to check out the Github page, click here
2)Unzip the package with the native client OR, navigate to your downloads and unzip
cd ~/Downloads unzip dogecoin-master.zip 
3)Now it's time to compile. You will need to install the dependencies, just copy and paste the following code. It will be a fairly large download and could take some time. It is always important to update before installing any new software, so we'll do that first and then install the dependencies.
sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade sudo apt-get install libssl-dev libdb-dev libdb++-dev libqrencode-dev qt4-qmake libqtgui4 libqt4-dev sudo apt-get install libminiupnpc-dev libminiupnpc8 libboost-all-dev build-essential git libboost1.53-all-dev 
4)Once that is done, go to the doge-coin master directory and compile:
cd ~/Downloads/dogecoin-maste sed -i 's/-mgw46-mt-sd-1_53//g' dogecoin-qt.pro qmake USE_UPNP=- USE_QRCODE=0 USE_IPV6=0 make -j3 
After running the qmake command you will likely see some text similar to
Project MESSAGE: Building without UPNP support Project MESSAGE: Building with UPNP supportRemoved plural forms as the target language has less forms. If this sounds wrong, possibly the target language is not set or recognized. 
It's perfectly normal, so don't worry about that.
Your Dogewallet is ready to go! The executable is in ~/Downloads/dogecoin-maste and called dogecoin-qt. Your wallet information is in ~/.dogecoin. You can run the wallet at any time by opening terminal and typing
cd ~/Downloads/dogecoin-maste ./dogecoin-qt 
Future upgrades to dogewallet are easy. Back up your wallet.dat, and simply follow the same directions above, but you'll be unzipping and building the newer version. You will likely need to rename the old dogecoin-master directory in ~/Downloads before unzipping the newest version and building. Also, it is likely that you will not need to install the dependencies again.
Alternate Method For Installing Dogecoin Wallet from Nicebreakfast
After installing the dependencies listed in step 3, open terminal, then navigate to where you want Dogecoin Wallet stored and run:
git clone https://github.com/dogecoin/dogecoin ./autogen.sh ./configure make 
then when the wallet is updated just run
git pull 
from the dogecoin directory.
GPU Mining
GPU mining requires CGminer. My suggestion is to get the executable already built. The creator of cgminer has removed the built file from his website, but I've uploaded it here
sudo apt-get install pkg-config opencl-dev libcurl4-openssl-dev autoconf libtool automake m4 ncurses-dev cd ~/Downloads tar -xvf cgminer-3.7.2-x86_64-built.tar.bz2 
Don't use anything newer than 3.7.2. The newer versions of CGMiner don't support GPU mining.
That's it! You have cgminer ready to go! You will run cgminer with the following syntax
cd ~/Downloads/cgminer-3.7.2-x86_64-built/ ./cgminer --scrypt -o stratum+tcp://SERVERNAME:PORT -u WORKER.ID -p PASS

EDIT
I had trouble getting cgminer running with a single line command, but running it via an executable .sh file works. This is covered in the cgminer setup guide I posted above but I'll put it here too. In the same directory that has the cgminer executable, you need to make a file called cgminer.sh and make it executable. It should contain the follwing:
export GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS=1 export GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT=100 export DISPLAY=:0 find *.bin -delete sleep 5 ./cgminer 
Then you can call cgminer in terminal by doing ./cgminer.sh You will need a cgminer.conf file containing all your options. All of this is covered in the guide that is linked above.
A quick note about AMD drivers: They used to be a huge PITA to install and get working, but the newest Catalyst drivers are great. There's a GUI installer, everything works out of the box, and there is a lot of documentation. You can download them here: AMD Catalyst 14.6 Beta Linux
CPU Mining
For CPU mining I use minerd because it doesn't require any work to get running, simply download it and get to work. Download the built file for your machine 32-bit or 64-bit, and then unzip it and you're ready to go!
cd ~/Downloads tar -xvf pooler-cpuminer-2.3.2-linux-x86.tar.gz 
The executable is called minerd and it will be in ~/Downloads but you can move it to wherever you like. To run it, pull up terminal and do
cd ~/Downloads minerd --url=stratum+tcp://SERVER:PORT --userpass=USERNAME.WORKERNAME:WORKERPASSWORD 
You're done! Happy mining!
Common Issues
I ran into this and I've seen others with this problem as well. Everything installs fine but there is a shared library file that isn't where it should be. In fact, it isn't there at all.
 libudev.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory 
In terminal, do
sudo updatedb locate libudev.so.0.13.0 
And it will probably return a path /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu. Inside that directory there's a library file called libudev.so.0.13.0. You'll need to make a symlink (aka shortcut) that links libudev.so.1 to libudev.so.0.13.0 So, assuming you're working with libudev.so.0.13.0 do this
cd /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu sudo ln -s libudev.so.0.13.0 libudev.so.1 
Now if you do
ln -l 
You should see
libudev.so.1 -> ./libudev.so.0.13.0 
Meaning you've made the symlink. Also, the text for libudev.so.1 will be blue.

Help wanted with solomining with USB Block Erupters

OK you're going to say I'm crazy for even trying but I still want to try solomine with my USB Block Erupters.
I used to mine with the Bitminter client and it reached the point when I hardly get any coins.
I tried CGminer but it says "no devices detected".
So plz tell me how I can solomine with these ASIC sticks.

bitcoin.conf for solo mining

I've done this a long time ago. It never was a problem. Nowadays I don't get it to work. Would be great to get some help:
My bitcoin.conf looks like this:
server=1 rpcuser=bomtom rpcpassword=secret rpcallowip=192.168.0.0/24 rpcport=8332 
If I point my miner to a pool via
./cgminer -o stratum+tcp://some.pool:8332 -u bomtom -p secret --api-listen --cs 9 --stmcu 0 -T --diff 12 
...it works just fine.
If I point my miner to my own bitcoind however via
./cgminer -o stratum+tcp://192.168.0.2:8332 -u bomtom -p secret --api-listen --cs 9 --stmcu 0 -T --diff 12 
...it doesn't work and just throws:
 [2018-01-01 04:14:10] Probing for an alive pool [2018-01-01 04:14:20] Waiting for work to be available from pools 
Is there anything wrong with my bitcoin.conf? My chain is up to date and bitcoind generally works.

I have a beagleboard that came as part of a bitcoin mining appliance and I broke linux. Offering a reward for the solution.

THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN SOLVED.
I received a brand new KnC Saturn bitcoin miner TODAY. I promptly logged into ssh to configure the miner and made a mistake that has caused the appliance not to boot.
I am willing to offer $200 in reward, by paypal or bitcoin to the person or persons who helps me get this miner working. If it starts working, I will award the entire sum to those who helped in a sum divisible at my discretion.
This is the KncMiner Saturn, the miner I received today.

I have no experience with beagle boards, though I am comfortable with Raspberry Pi's, and pretty comfortable with linux (though I'm questioning that considering my current predicament).
Here's a synopsis:
The beagleboard runs a custom linux firmware developed by KnCminer with a bitcoin mining program called cgminer. The interface is accessible primarily from a web interface, secondarily by ssh.
I am nearly certain that the only problem is that I removed a file that the board is searching for on boot. There is a directory called /config/ that directory contains mining configuration files.
I issued
mv /config/cgminer.conf.factory /config/cgminer.conf 
which effectively deleted /config/cgminer.conf.factory. This has rendered they system only partially bootable. The system lights up and it responds to ping, but I cannot access the system by ssh or by the web interface.
I believe that all I need to do is to get into the beaglebone and cp the cgminer.conf file back to cgminer.conf.factory in order to enable regular boot.
In addition, I may have exacerbated the problem by attempting a hardware reset described on page 5 of this manual.
The company, KncMiner, does offer a support page with clean firmwares, but I don't know how to apply any of these to a non-working system.
I am more than willing to answer any questions. As I stated, I will award $200 in bitcoin or paypal to the person or persons who helps me get this miner working. The payout will only occur if this thread results in a solution. I will award the entire prize at my discretion to those who help at a ratio of my determination.
UPDATE 6:30am 10/22/2013: I glad to see bonez656 post that this is happening to someone else. I am currently trying to acquire a complete dd image of the saturn/jupiter so I can reflash my beaglebone. If this works, I plan to offer 1/2 of the reward to bonez656 and the other half to whoever provides the dd image.
UPDATE 7am 10/22/2013: I received support from Emilia at KnC that may make a flash unncessary. The miner has an Emergency State that may allow me to access SSH and restore the bad file. I will attempt this first and follow up around 5pm EST with details.
UPDATE 4pm 10/23/2013: The miner is up and running! I'll be providing 0.25 BTC to bonez656 for providing comments that got me closest to the solution.
The solution actually came from KnC miner support:
  1. Shut down the power;
  2. Disconnect 12V power cables from all the ASIC boards;
  3. Turn the power on.
  4. The miner will start, and red LED will light up eventually - it is in errored state "No ASIC board found"
  5. SSH into the miner, restore factory configuration files (sample network.conf.factory and cgminer.conf.factory attached)
  6. sync (issue sync command in the command line interface)
  7. Turn the power off.
  8. Plug in back all the 12V cables to the ASIC boards.
  9. Turn the power on.
  10. Happy mining!

(Dummies Guide) How to simultaneously run multiple instances of cgminer to control different GPUs whilst using BAMT.

In cgminer you cannot specify multiple values for gpu-threads. gpu-threads is a global per-instance setting, not a per-GPU setting. If you want to run 2 different values of gpu-threads, you need to run 2 instances of cgminer.
This guide will help you if, for example; you have a rig in which one or more of your cards run better with gpu-threads set to 1 and your other cards run better with gpu-threads set to 2 (or 3 or 4)
So I'm going to assume here that you're running a rig with 4 cards and you're already set up and mining.
I'm also going to assume that you know how to use nano. So let's say your cgminer.conf has the line "gpu-threads" : "2", Unfortunately your 4th card isn't giving you the hash-rate you're expecting from it or worse, you're getting hardware errors which lead to rejected shares.
(to see if you're getting hardware errors in BAMT, you need to be able to see what cgminer is actually displaying. To do this simply SSH to your rig, log in and type "screen -r". I won't go too into this to much but where it says HW: you don't want so see anything there, if you're seeing anything other than 0 then you have problems with your config. Now to detach from this screen you need to press "ctrl+A+D" this is very important, do not press q!)
Anyway, you know that the 4th card wants to run with "gpu-threads" : "1", but you can't do "gpu-threads" : "2,2,2,1", this will not work!
So to get 2 cgminers running, follow these steps:
  1. SSH to your rig, be logged in, and a super user. You should be seeing this: [email protected]:/home/user#
  2. Type "nano /etc/bamt/cgminer.conf" Add the line: "device" : "0-2", This is saying that this instance of cgminer will be controlling GPUs 0, 1 & 2. Save and exit (ctrl+x)
  3. Type "nano startcgminer.sh" This will create a new script that you will run later to boot up your 2nd cgminer. Now type "chmod u+x startcgminer.sh" and hit enter.
  4. Add your info. below is mine but you want to replace with the settings for your 4th card (gpu 3): (where it says "device 3" this is saying that this instance of cgminer will only run gpu 3 (4th card) and "remove-disabled" makes it so it won't display the other cards)
    export DISPLAY=:0 export GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS=1 export GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT=100 export CGMINER_BIN=/opt/miners/cgminecgminer $CGMINER_BIN --scrypt \ -o miningpoolserver.com:3333 -u username -p password \ -o backupminingpoolserver:3333 -u username -p password \ -I 20 \ -w 512 \ --gpu-threads 1 \ --thread-concurrency 32765 \ --gpu-engine 990 \ --gpu-memclock 1500 \ --gpu-powertune 11 \ --gpu-vddc 1.025 \ --device 3 \ --remove-disabled \ --temp-cutoff 99 \ --temp-overheat 95 \ --temp-target 85 \ --auto-fan \ --gpu-fan 50-85 
    Note: Make sure there are no random spaces at the end of any of these lines and also make sure that the I for intensity is upper case.
    Now save and exit the script by hitting ctrl+x etc.
  5. type "screen -ls" and hit enter, you should see something similar to this:
    There are screens on: 4366.pts-1.bamt-miner (12/30/2013 08:00:56 PM) (Detached) 1 Sockets in /varun/screen/S-root. 
    So this is saying that there is currently only 1 screen running and BAMT is using it to run cgminer inside.
  6. Type "screen" and hit enter, it will come up with a load of text about screen, just ignore that and hit enter again. Now you are inside your new 2nd screen.
  7. Now type ./startcgminer.sh You should now see cgminer boot up and start mining with just gpu 3. To detach from this screen you need to hit ctrl+a+d.
And that's it, there should now be 2 screens running.
To check the other screen type "screen -ls" and hit enter, you should now see both screens running. Something like this:
There are screens on: 6349.cgminer (12/30/2013 08:08:35 PM) (Detached) 4366.pts-1.bamt-miner (12/30/2013 08:00:56 PM) (Detached) 2 Sockets in /varun/screen/S-root. 
To look at one screen type "screen -r 6349", to look at the other type "screen -r 4366" (remember to detach from screens using ctrl+a+d)
You should still be able to see info for the first 3 cards on BAMT's web UI and in fact I can still see the temp and load for my 4th card.

Help with a rig

i am running a 5x7950 rig on windows 8. all 5 of my cards mine fine on bitcoin but when I run --scrypt it crashes on cgminer it just says the program stopped responding. However when I do sha256 through bitcoin it seems to work fine.
I am running with 2GiG of memory on the motherboard. Is it possible that I require more memory on the motherboard for scrypt mining?

Thanks to everyone who helped, I finally got it up and running. it was a driver issue. It seems like 13.1 whql works better. However the trouble in installing 13.1 was kind of sketchy. I had all 5 cards in there, and installed 13.1 the first time. and the screen went blank for hours. So i just ended up doing a hard boot on the system. It turns out it stalled in the installation, so but driver was already installed, so I just manually updated the driver in device manager (at that time only 1 was displaying, while the others were running on windows drivers, so i updated the rest to the amd drivers). At this point in time all was well. However when I ran cgminer, it said opencl.dll was not present. I didn't think too much of it.
Today I retried 13.1. When the screen went blank this time, I did another hardboot, then same thing happened, this time however, I didn't manually update the other 4 card's drivers. Instead I reran the install, without uninstalling, because I figured it was a FRESH INSTALL that was not finished, if i was to reinstall and if it did finish installing I'd have a proper opencl. And that WAS the case. I did scrypt mining benchmark on cgminer, and it was running at very low kh/s like 15kh/card. But it was working. Then i figured it was probably because the configuration was off. So off I went and started playing with the conf file and now, every card is hashing at 500kh/s. I even got it up to 600kh/s but my power bar tripped. I'm going to perhaps upgrade my circuit next week and try for 6 cards at 600kh/s. I have no doubt i can get it over 630-650 as I have tried those setting. below is a picture of hashing at my lower spectrum, i'm doing a burn in test. http://imgur.com/FxT4AwS

If you are all wondering how the rack was made. It's pretty simple, these racks are 99bucks at canadian tire (i live in canada), but you can get them at costco. There are like 4 shelves, each shelf can fit 2 systems.
The steel frames were added on for the cards. As you can see i misjudged the height of the riser, so I had to actually use spacers and wood blocks to get the board higher. I am planning to move the shelves higher as they are adjustable, but it requires me to remove the system since i'll be putting a mallet to it.

How To Mine Doge with Ubuntu 13.10. (Part 1, for AMD Graphics Cards)

I feel the community really needs a resource like this. Because if I had a Doge for every-time taught a newbie how to Mine on Ubuntu, I would be a very rich doge!
EDIT: Sorry if it looks funny, Reddit doesn't like the numbers I put in for some reason.
If you have Ubuntu you have likely not upgraded because you think you cant mine on 13.10, and while that has been true in the past, a few people have got it figured out. So feel free to upgrade. If you are not on Ubuntu, Seriously you should consider using it. Even if its just on an older desktop.
Alright, so lets get a few things clear, I am assuming that you just FRESHLY installed Ubuntu 13.10 x64 on your system. I am assuming that you have no drivers, and no miners. You will need at least a key board and a mouse. The guide will be done in several parts, this first part is for most AMD Graphics cards. If you have an Nvidia, or just want to mine with your CPU, please check back later for those guides!
When reading this guide, please remember that as I give you commands to type into the terminal, Anything between { and} must be included. Do not copy and paste the {}.
Lets get started, If you have not already done so, Install Ubuntu 13.10 64Bit From Here (http://www.ubuntu.com/index_asus.html)
*1. Lets start by making sure you are up to date. Open up the terminal and enter this:
{sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade} 
Let that run for a bit.
*2. Once that has finished we are going to download some applications we will need:
{sudo apt-get install dh-make dh-modaliases execstack libxrandr2 libice6 libsm6 libfontconfig1 libxi6 libxcursor1 libgl1-mesa-glx libxinerama1 libqtgui4} 
*3. Once that has run its course we are going to install the ssh server. Remember this command is going to make your computer shut down. While it is shut down, carefully install your graphics cards. If you don't have any experience with this, I suggest you 3 minutes to watch this guide, because failure to install a graphics card the right way can destroy it.

{sudo apt-get install openssh-server sudo shutdown now} 
*4.Install your Card(s) and turn the computer back on.
*5. Make a new folder called "AMD DRIVERS123" inside of your download folder. Downoad the following 3 things into that folder. (1. AMD Drivers: http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/incomplete) (2. AMD APP SDK: http://developer.amd.com/tools-and-sdks/heterogeneous-computing/amd-accelerated-parallel-processing-app-sdk/downloads/) (3. AMD ADL SDK:http://developer.amd.com/tools-and-sdks/graphics-development/display-library-adl-sdk/)
*6. Ok, now we need to unzip and compile those drivers. So, open a terminal my right clicking inside of "AMD DRIVERS123". The enter this:
{unzip amd-catalyst*.zip chmod +x amd-catalyst*.run} {sudo ./amd-catalyst*.run --buildpkg Ubuntu/saucy} 
*7. Now we need to install the drivers. Enter the code exactly as you see it, don't worry, the first command will fail, we are expecting it too.
{sudo dpkg -i fglrx*.deb} {sudo apt-get -f install} {sudo dpkg -i fglrx*.deb} {sudo reboot} 
Your computer should now reboot.
(If this failed, you probibly need to remove the old drivers. Do this
{cd /etc/default sudo pico grub} 
Change the line:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash nomodeset" 
Now save by pressing [CTRL+x]
{sudo update-grub} this will make the change perminent. {sudo reboot -n} Reboot with new settings. Once it starts back up try installing the new drivers again.) 
*8.GREAT! You are really on a roll! Now we need to update AtiConfig
{sudo aticonfig --initial --adapter=all} 
*9.Time to install the APP ADK:
{tar xvf AMD-APP-SDK*.tgz} {sudo ./Install-AMD-APP.sh} {sudo reboot} 
*10. WOOT! You are so close to diggin that sweet Doge!! Its time to download CGMiner. IMPORTANT NOTE! You need to get CGminer 3.7, IT IS THE ONLY ONE THAT WILL WORK. Do not get any older or newer, Just this. :
{sudo apt-get install git unzip git clone -b 3.7 https://github.com/ckolivas/cgminer} 
*11. Ok, now go back to "AMD DRIVERS123", Unzip AMD SDL SDK 6.0. Once you have it unzipped, go the file called "include", open it up, copy everything inside, then go find CGminer. Copy these files into the CGminer file called ADL_SDK.
*12. To install CGminer, we are going to need a few things. Get all of these.
{sudo apt-get install build-essential autoconf libtool libcurl4-openssl-dev libncurses5-dev pkg-config libudev-dev} 
*13. Lets go ahead and compile CGminer.
{cd cgminer} {./autogen.sh} 
*14. Ok, when you did that, it told you GPU was not supported, time to fix it.
{./configure --enable-opencl --enable-scrypt} 
(if you did it right you should now get this: OpenCL...............: FOUND. GPU mining support enabled scrypt...............: Enabled ADL..................: SDK found, GPU monitoring support enabled)
*15. If everything has been good so far then
{make} 
*16. MATHEMATICAL! Now lets get it set up to run a test.
{nano test.sh} {!/bin/bash export DISPLAY=:0 export GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT=100 export GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS=1} {./cgminer -n} 
*17. Now save by hitting [Control+x][y][Enter]
*18.Lastly lets CHmod test.sh
{chmod+x test.sh} 
*19. TIME TO RUN THE TEXT!!!
{./test.sh} 
(If your output looks like this your ready to go!!! CL Platform 0 vendor: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. *20. Excellent! Now we have it installed, its time to pick 2-3 pools, and get accounts set up at each of them. I currently use These 2, and If I find another I like I'll update. If you have a really awesome pool you would like me to include on the list, feel free to message me.
Pools: http://doge.cryptovalley.com/ (great community, server not super stable, but they have a chat. I hang out here a lot under the handle 'StrongBad' feel free to stop buy and ask questions)
https://dogehouse.org/ (Super stable pool, Great contests, super friendly, and they pay your miner a bonus if you find the block!)
Choose your pools, go to their sites and sign up. VERY IMPORTANT!!! Use different usernames and passwords for every mining site. If one site gets hacked, you don't want to give them a way to steal everything!!!!! Don't worry about the worker names and passwords being unique or complex tho, the most they can do with this is mine for you.
*21. Ok, now go to the CGminer folder, and open up a Terminal Window.
{sudo ./cgminer} 
This should start ./cgminer up with some really basic settings, and not pointed at any pool. Lets fix that: First press [p] to go to pool settings Now [A] and enter the information for the 1st pool. For instance if you are signing on for dogehouse: (Input server details: stratum+tcp://stratum.dogehouse.org:3333 Username: 'yourusername.workername password: 'yourpassword') If you got no errors, you did it right! Your miner should now connect and start to mine very slowly.
Now, do the same thing for all your other pools. the reason we do this is because Doge Coin pools are constantly being DDoS attacked, and this way your worker automatically switches over to a good pool if one go's down.
*22. time to save your current settings press [Enter] to get back out to the main menu, then [s] to bring up settings. Now press [W] to write a Config file. Name it DogeCoin.conf, and make sure to save it in the location it directs you too.
*23.OK! So, now we have everything set up to its basics. What you need to do now is sit down, and fine tune your Card(s). Its really early in the morning, and I need to get some sleep, I will add more on how to tune your card tomorrow in another post, and link it HERE:

[P2pool] How to make your own personal p2pool Node!

Tired of getting no block rewards and sending many dead shares? Need a p2pool node close to your miner? MAKE YOUR OWN! :D
And, Yep, P2pools give 0.5% Rewards to block finders!

The stronger the P2Pool network becomes the more resistant the digibyte network is to 51% attacks!
Oh and, P2pools are DDOS proof! Now that's News! So if your node gets DDOS'd .. you dont lose your shares as the shares have been saved in the p2pool, its called the sharechain. So you get paid anyhow! Thanks to the p2pool network. and you ccan set your workers to another pool using the "--failover only" command in cgminer (if im not wrong) and get it back to work on the p2pool network!
TL;DR; P2POOL = 1 Big fat network Decentrazlized pool!
STEPS TO MAKE A P2POOL:
Install Ubuntu server or Desktop if you want http://www.ubuntu.com/download/ or u can use a VPS (VirtualPrivateServer -- Link Below with coupon code)
So Let's start off in the command line (Open Terminal.. and all you have to do is Cut, Copy Paste! ;) )
Start by updating and upgrading Ubuntu, you know you want the best ;)
sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade sudo apt-get install python-software-properties sudo add-apt-repository ppa:bitcoin/bitcoin sudo apt-get update 
Time for the DigiByteProject dependencies!
sudo apt-get install build-essential libboost-all-dev libcurl4-openssl-dev libdb5.1-dev libdb5.1++-dev git qt-sdk libminiupnpc-dev sudo apt-get install qrencode libqrencode-dev 
And, Now to compile DigiByte on your system!
git clone git://github.com/digibyte/DigiByteProject.git digibyte #renaming makes it easier ;) cd ~/digibyte/src mkdir obj make -f makefile.unix USE_UPNP=- sudo cp digibyted /usbin cd ~ 
After it has compiled try running 'digibyted'

If you get an error saying you need to make the digibyte.conf file, good! :) If it doesnt give you that error, make sure you followed the compiling steps appropriately.
So, Lets create the conf file here...

Paste the following, CHANGING THE USERNAME AND PASS!! make sure to take note of both, you'll need these later!

Press 'CTRL' + ' X', and then 'Y' to save when prompted
cd ~ ./digibyte/src/digibyted ./digibyte/src/digibyted getinfo 
Make sure you check the latest block in the block chain or on your local DigiByte Wallets. This is to see how far your p2pool node has gotten! This is gonna take quite a while so lets CONTINUE!
Let's get the p2pool software and frontend in! Install the p2pool dependencies!
sudo apt-get install python-zope.interface python-twisted python-twisted-web git clone https://github.com/Rav3nPL/p2pool-rav p2pool #renaming it! cd ~/p2pool/digibyte_subsidy #Thanks to Chaeplin sudo python setup.py install 
Time to edit and customise the html code to personalise your p2pool's frontend. Feel free to change the p2pool name and if you're an advanced user, feel free to add your own frontend from git hub after removing the web-static folder. (OPTIONAL: by using rm -f -r web-static #in that directory. And then you can choose whichever frontend you want! by cloning it in the web-static folder)
Editing the current frontend html!
cd .. cd web-static nano index.html 
After personalising the page, i.e. changing the p2pool name and adding some info! Lets go back and check how far the block downloading has gotten! You can check this by typing this in the command line after going back to the root directory:
cd ~ ./digibyte/src/digibyted getinfo 
This is gonna take a while so might as well check for updates again :P
sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade 
After making sure that all the blocks have been synced locally! We're ready to run the p2pool node! Simply enter the string below in the command line, entering your USERNAME and PASS that you saved earlier!
screen -d -m -S myp2pool ~/p2pool/run_p2pool.py --give-author 0 --net digibyte NEWUSER NEWPASS --outgoing-conns 4 
If you want to charge a fee for your node add this to your string, adding your fee address!:
--fee 1.0 --address NEWDGBADDRESS 
To see if the node is up and running enter this in the command line:
screen -x myp2pool 
'CTRL' + 'A' + 'D' to close the terminal if you press 'CTRL' + 'C', it will terminate the p2pool program and you'll have to restart the pool by using the string above!
Once, Everything is setup as planned! Check your p2pool node's ip Address by entering this into the command line:
ifconfig 
inet addr: 192.168.1.1 #You'll see a line like this.
So, Your cgminer string should look something like this:

And your p2pool WEB ADDRESS should look like this:

Setting up solo mining just targeting USB erupters? PC/Mac?

I am having trouble trying to get solo mining started on either my PC or Mac. I have a PC set up that is using three 7950s that are mining Litecoins. I'd like to have my 2 USB erupters solo mining Bitcoins for fun on the same system. I have the drivers installed for the USB miners and my system recognizes them.
I am starting Bitcoin-QT as -server
My bitcoin.conf looks like this: listen=1 server=1 rpcuser=user rpcpassword=pass
I set up a BFG .bat like this: bfgminer.exe -o 127.0.0.1:8332 -O -u user -p pass
When I launch that, BFG just crashes. I have also tried it with CGminer and that crashes also. I'd like to keep CGminer on the cards Litecoin mining and use BFG for the USB miners.
How do I get BFG to work just with the USBs? Also, do I need to input a Bitcoin address somewhere so if I did solve something I get the payout?
Sometimes, I do more work on my Mac and am also trying to set up the USBs to mine on a Mac using Diablo miner. Will that work the same way as the PC setup once we get it figured out?

Hey you. Yes you with the eyes. Are you new to the world of crypto coin mining? Have no idea what a dogecoin is? Want to start mining dogecoins today and just can't seem to figure it out or get it to work?
Well have I got much help for you! About a week ago, I finally started mining after two painful days of trying to get it to work. Basically, I was a total noob and didn't really understand anything about mining in general. Because of the joy mining has brought me so far I am writing this guide to hopefully help out new members or other total noobs.
It's safe to say I've been bitten by the dogecoin bug. I started out with a measly 50 khash/sec and made approximately 10 coins in 12 hours. * My reaction when I finally got my miner to work * Reaction cont.
Now I'm up to 500 khash/sec after figuring out all the 'nuts and bolts' of mining. wow...such optimization...many hash
I'll break this guide down into three categories: Detailed Info, CGMiner Config for AMD Cards, and lastly, CUDAMiner for Nvidia cards.
Detailed Info very words....wow
A dogecoin is a type of crypto currency that is traded against bitcoins in a crypto currency marketplace.
You can earn dogecoins by contributing hashes (computing power) to a mining pool to help find a block.
There are a certain amount of dogecoins that will be released. These coins are released in the form of a block ranging in quantity of 1-1,000,000 doge coins. It is worth noting that the total quantity of coins per block will soon be halved to just 500,000.
Things you will need to mine: * dogecoin wallet * computer with a GPU * an account with a mining pool * a worker for the mining pool * mining software

2) Turn off your computer's anti-virus software and allow the dogecoin wallet through your fire wall. *VERY IMPORTANT
3) Run the dogecoin wallet and let it sync with the network. It is important to note that this can take a short amount of time or even up to 12 hours to complete. Just be patient. Use that time to research mining more.

Once your wallet has synced with the network, it is time to sign up with a mining pool. Think of a mining pool as a virtual supercomputer that is made up of many smaller computers connected together. This pool or 'super computer' allows for greater processing power. More processing power = greater chance of the pool finding a block.

Finding a pool

Be careful when running Java and/or entering the usepass on sites. There are phishing sites out there that imitate other pools to steal your data.
When accessing a mining pool, DO NOT follow any redirects, always access the site directly and check the URL. For extra security, make sure you're using https://
Don't run Java!" <--- not my words, but very good warning to take into consideration
1) Perform a quick google search or use the links in the side bar to find a pool!
2) For this example I will be using https://fast-pool.com/index.php (I in no way, shape, or form endorse this particular pool. It was the first one I clicked. Feel free to use any pool you want, as the sites are all the same.)
3) You're going to want to click "Sign Up" in the menu on the left of the page. After clicking, sign up for an account.
4) After signing up for an account, log into your account. (For the sake of my example my mining pool site username will be "Shibe")
5) Now we will create a pool worker. Click "My Workers" in the menu on the left side of the page.
6) Choose a worker name and worker password and click submit. *NOTE THE WORKER NAME IS NOT THE SAME AS YOUR ACCOUNT USERNAME
7) For the sake of the example my workers name is "worker1" and the password is "x". *Note capitalization matters so don't forget it.
Now we will download a mining software and configure it to mine.
Before we do that I want to clarify what the info we will be using to configure our miner is.
1) Click "Getting Started"
In my example pool under getting started you will see this in "Step 3":
  1. Configure your miner.
    Settings for Stratum (recommended): STRATUM: stratum+tcp://fast-pool.com PORT: 3336 Username: Weblogin.Worker Password: Worker Password
If you use a command-line miner, type:
./cgminer --scrypt -o stratum+tcp://fast-pool.com:3336 -u Weblogin.Worker -p Worker password

Final Step Regarding Mining Pools
We need to add our payment address to our mining pool account so that we can receive the dogecoins we help mine.
1) Click "Edit Account" on the menu on the left side of the page.
2) Scroll down until you see "PAYMENT ADDRESS".
3) Minimize the webpage and go to your doge coin wallet.
4) In your dogecoin wallet click the "Much Receive" tab.
5) You will see the Label "Default" with an "Address" composed of a long random string of letters and numbers.
6) Right-click that string of random numbers and letters and select "copy address".
7) Maximize the pools webpage again and paste that address into "PAYMENT ADDRESS".
8) Enter you pin and click "Update Account".
WE'RE NOW READY TO DOWNLOAD A MINER such hooray....many celebrate
IF YOU HAVE AN AMD CARD, THIS SECTION IS FOR YOU!
*Note AMD cards are much better for mining than Nvidia. It's just the way it is!
We will be using cgminer to mine dogecoins with our AMD cards.
While there are newer versions of cgminer avaliable you're going to want to download cgminer version 3.7.2 because any higher versions do not support GPU mining.
1) Make sure your AMD drivers are up to date.
2) This version of cgminer is now only available on gitub at this url. The option to download the zip file in on the bottom left right side column.
3) After downloading the file, extract its contents to a folder on your desktop.
4) Before we do that go to Control Panel Folder Options View select "Show hidden files, folders, and drives" and click apply.
BEFORE YOU TRY THE BELOW, RUN THE APPLICATION AND INPUT THE SERVER URL:PORT (stratum+tcp://fast-pool.com:3336) "enter" USERNAME (Shibe.worker1) "enter" and PASSWORD (x) "enter".
*If the application runs without giving you errors hit the [S] and select "create config file" and hit enter.
5) If that didn't work, we will make a .conf file that allows cgminer to run correctly.
6) Now go to the folder you extracted cgminer into.
7) Right-click anywhere in the folder and select "New" Text document.
8) Right-click the new text document you just created and select "Edit".
9) Copy and paste the following into that new text document leaving no space at the top and enter the appropriate pool information accordingly. Noticed I used my STRATUM info from my example.

12) If it still doesn't work try changing the intensity to a lower number or changing the workspace value to 64.

9) Copy and paste this to the top line of the blank text document leaving no space in front and input the appropriate url, username and password from whatever pool you use. (I will be using my example pool info stated earlier in this post):
cudaminer.exe -o stratum+tcp://fast-pool.com:3336 -u Shibe.worker1 -p x
10) Click save-as Save as type, "All files" and rename the document to: Launch.bat
11) Click save.
12) Double click the Launch.bat file you just created to run the program.
13) Wait for the program to auto-tune your settings and then it will start mining automatically.

[modpost] Possible wiki page, something I call "All about miners," covering things from basic terminology to miner config files and overclocking.

What is a miner?
A miner is a computer set up to solve cryptographic hashes in the litecoin network. Once a clump of these hashes, or a block, is mined, litecoins pop out! It's like opening a box of chocolates, except you know what you're gonna get :) Miners also handle transaction confirmations, making sure no single coin is double-spent.
Setting up your computer to be a miner
What kind of computer do I need?
Optimally, you'd have a good power supply and a couple decent Radeon/ATI/AMD graphics cards. Because of litecoin's hash algorithm, the gap between mining with graphics cards and processors is less than with most other cryptocurrencies, meaning that mining with some desktop processors may be worth it after electricity costs. Note that mining with laptops is not recommended because of the heat generated by mining, and mining with NVIDIA graphics cards may not be worth the cost.
How do I know if litecoin mining will be profitable for me?
First, check how fast you'll be mining with your hardware, how many litecoins you'll mine in a day, and how much litecoins are worth. Now, multiply the number of litecoins per day by their worth. Then, find out the power draw of your hardware, and calculate energy cost. Then finish by subtract energy cost from your daily earnings. If your number is positive, you're making that much money per day. If negative, you're losing money.
Keep in mind that the worth of litecoins goes up/down, and you have to earn the cost of your hardware before you churn a profit. Mining difficulty also goes up/down, depending on how many people are mining how fast in relation to how many litecoins are supposed to be generated how fast. See the economics(coming soon) post for more info.
Okay, I did all that. How do I start?
All you have to do is download a program and change some settings (later in the guide), and you're ready to go. If you're comfortable with configurations and the command line, Reaper and cgminer are your best friends. Otherwise, GUIMiner-scrypt is right for you. If you want to mine on your processor, download the "batteries included" miner via this link and setup should be relatively self-explanatory.
Do I mine alone?
Due to the difficulty of mining, we recommend that you mine with a pool where multiple people mine together. Visit your pool's about or help page for proper miner settings, which we're about to get to in-depth!
Under the hood
Configuring your miner (aka the hard part)
Before we get started, you should become familiar with these terms:
None of those will have any affect on how fast you mine. The settings that we'll be focusing on are:
If you're using GUIMiner-scrypt, there are default settings for different cards (lower right dropdown). I'm mining on a 7870. Here is what it looks like for me. You can follow along with the rest of this guide to optimize your settings. GUIMiner-scrypt is just a GUI to cgminer and reaper anyways.
If you are using a command-line miner, like reaper and cgminer, I recommend you download and isntall Notepad++ or SublimeText if on Linux.
Reaper is currently considered to be the best tool for mining. After you unzip your downloaded file, in the folder you'll find reaper.conf. It should look something like this:

This will make it mine litecoin on your first graphics card and reference litecoin.conf, which for me looks like

As you see, my thread concurrency is slightly different from the default of GUIMiner-scrypt. I found that this concurrency gives me the best hashrate!
NOTE: I do not use cgminer to mine litecoin. If you plan on using cgminer, which offers more hardware-controlling settings, in the cgminer folder you will want to create a text file. Then, open that text file w/ Notepad++ or SublimeText, then Save As > cgminer.con > file type > all. This will save the file with the proper name and as the proper type. Note that cgminer does not support high concurrencies. For me, cgminer.conf would look something like:

You saw some settings similar to what we saw in Reaper's litecoin.conf. The other settings have to do with my card's clocks, voltage, and fan. This is covered in the overclocking section right below!
Overclocking (aka the risky part)
Okay, first off I'm not responsible if you cause damage to your parts. Please research safe overclock settings for your card. Second, don't be afraid. Modern hardware has many safety features in place that help prevent mayhem like me...lol jk this isn't a car insurance add. For your better understanding, become familiar with these terms:
No one setting controls how effectively you mine; what matters most when it comes to clocks is the ratio between your core/memory clocks. Generally, a ratio of 0.7 or below is best. You will need to experiment. If you're using cgminer, you can control card settings from the conf file. However, if you aren't, I recommend using MSI Afterburner as your overclocking tool. You will need to unlock some settings. Using my cgminer settings, MSI Afterburner looks like this. I have found these settings to be the most stable while bringing me a high hashrate.
Other people's optimum settings
You can check the sidebar for the hardware comparison chart, but it is rarely updated and has huge sways in results. It is a good starting place. The mods of this subreddit will be putting together an updated, more accurate list in the near future.

cgminer 3.7.2 overheating my 5770. Do --temp-target or --temp-cutoff actually do anything?

I have an old HD 5770 which I thought I could pop some coins out of but I cannot get the mining software set up. I am running cgminer 3.7.2, and with default settings fresh from the install I get ~27kH/s but that seems low, others report ~130-190 with 5770's. When I try others suggested settings (seems mainly higher intensities) I get a boost to my hash rate but the card gets very hot and shoots up to over 90C in a minute or two and the safeties don't seem to kick in.
--auto-gpu with a temperature target seems like it should be ideal, but I cannot get it to hold any target temperatures.
Does --temp-cutoff do anything? I usually monitor the temperature with speedfan and shut it down when it hits mid 90's, cgminer does not seem to care about high temperature. I thought it had a default setting of 95 for the cutoff, am I mistaken?
Are there alternative programs for AMD mining with a pool? I cannot get guiminer to start, and most other programs only have documentation for bitcoin or litecoin.
I should add, I am passing these setting with the mine.bat file, I tried messing with the .conf file but it didn't seem to change any temperature settings either.
edit: Thanks for the help so far. I think my old .conf file might have been stopping my new temperature settings from being taken up. I got a "REST" status in the kH/s area when I hit the cutoff, but cgminer did not seem to pick up the trail again after the temperature dropped back to normal, it said it was reactivating but I just got that "stratum from pool detected new block message" over and over again. I really like cudaminer for the "yay!"s and such. I don't even know when I hash something in cgminer.

Having some trouble getting started.

Alright,
So I've just started getting into the whole mining scene and I started out mining bitcoins. That was pretty east, download a few applications run them and the coins started streaming in. But I have come to realize that with my current machines I would probably be better off mining litecoins. So I started researching and I have tried to join several mining pools. But everytime I try to start mining with almost any program (cgminer, bfgminer, reaper, GUIscrypt) I put in all my credentials into the command prompt/.conf file and all that happens is the program hangs for a few seconds and then proceeds to close with an error message reading *****.exe has stopped working.
Now I have been trying to google and forum search my way through these problems but it seems I have reached an impass and I am hoping my fellow miners can help me out. any suggestions would be great!

Noob looking for help with cgminer conf and a couple general LTC questions

I just picked up a few 290x GPUs, for starters I have two running. I was unsuccessful in getting cgminer to start when using a .conf file. I copied these settings http://holynerdvana.blogspot.ca/2013/11/litecoin-mining-with-r9-290-and-r9-290x.html but when I got to launch cgminer I get an error (cgminer error -61 cannont CreateBuffer / cgminer failed to init gpu) and it doesn't start. Here are my exact settings

Is it better to not have a monitor plugged in while mining? If so is VNCing into the machine the solution or running CGWatcher smarter?
How can places like a coffee shop accept bitcoin if it takes 15 minutes to verify a transaction? Do you have to wait?

CGMiner belly up? Or is my PC a kat?

Hello shibes! I was looking to get into mining doge, yet I can't get my CGMiner to work, while my PC is not the best of all shibes (A8-3670K, HD 6670), it should be able to do something.

My system has 3 OpenCL devices, 0 is APU/Graphics, 1 is the 6670, and 2 is APU/CPU, when mining Bitcoin in poclbm trying to use device 2 slowed everything to a crawl (device0 gets ~60 Mhash/s, device1 gets ~100), but running CGMiner without device specified does not have any impact on my system's lagginess. Any help is appreciated.
